Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend LP Vinyl Record
The New-York indie rock, pop four-piece Vampire Weekend draw on their diverse backgrounds and interests, experimenting with African guitar music, the Western classical canon, hazy memories of Cape Cod summers, winters in upper Manhattan, and reggaeton on their debut, self-titled album. The band formed and cut their musical teeth at NYC's Columbia's University, taking their name from a film that frontman Ezra Koenig wrote and trailered.
Challenging any preconceptions of what a New York band should sound like, Vampire Weekend offer an album with a beguiling mix of young, direct, danceable tunes and afrobeat-tinged, experimental pop. Their debut stands amongst both the bands and the 2000s most celebrated works, a stunning, uplifting modern classic by all accounts.

Staff Review:
With an impressive diversity in their influences, New York’s Vampire Weekend hit the music scene to widespread acclaim with their ground-breakingly stellar, self-titled debut in 2008. The album that brought an exciting new edge to both pop and indie-rock music, “Vampire Weekend” is all-round stylish, confident, refreshing, melodic, and energetic. The brilliant music vividly paints the prep school aesthetic of Columbia University (where the band met) without sounding pretentious.
On their debut album, the talented musicians of Vampire Weekend produce sound that's refreshing, breezy, upbeat and relatable. “Vampire Weekend" is filled with brilliant, catchy hooks and thoughtful lyricism that pushes the bounds of both pop and indie rock to magnificent new heights. Here, their soft, bright vocals vocals, melodic, playful guitar riffs, smooth, compelling bass-lines and diverse, rhythmic percussion create a buoyant, cheerful atmosphere that is impressively blissful and inspiring.
A standout song of “Vampire Weekend" is “Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa,” where the bands African influence is more present and notably reminiscent of Paul Simon’s music, particularly his album “Graceland.” The Afro-pop and English ska roots glisten though smooth, tribal percussion that patters alongside pliable, rhythmic drums, a luminous, melodic guitar riff, driving bass-lines and frontman Ezra Koenig’s charming, breezy vocals.
An album that is a cohesive sum of aesthetics, moods, cultural influences and talented musicianship “Vampire Weekend” provides one of the most upbeat listening experiences of the twenty-first century. The refreshingly uplifting and playful music makes for an album with superb replay-ability and an undeniable charm.
