Released in 1966, Revolver is the seventh studio album by the English rock band the Beatles.
This album would mark a shift in the band's overall approach to creating music. After a 3 month break in early 1966, the band would uncover the London counter-culture scene and fully immerse themselves in it.
The group would start to reflect their interest in the drug LSD, Eastern philosophy, and the avant-garde while addressing themes such as death and the transcendence of material concerns.
It was at this point in their career that the band decided to retire from touring, which resulted in the band being able to expand sonically and not be restrained by the pressures of live performance with their music. The band made liberal use of automatic double tracking, varispeed, reversed tapes, close audio miking, and instruments outside of their standard live set-up.
