The album is both more focused and ambitious than any of his previous records, it sees the artist consolidating his funk and R&B roots while moving boldly into pop, rock, and heavy metal through these nine superbly crafted songs.

Although Prince's songwriting is at a peak, the presence of the Revolution pulls the music into sharper focus, giving it a tougher, more aggressive edge. Even with all of his new, but uncompromising, forays into pop, Prince hasn't abandoned funk. Taken together, all of the stylistic experiments add up to a stunning statement of purpose that remains one of the most exciting albums ever created.

To me, the greatest artist in pop music is and always will be Prince. His music erupts with passion, his guitar riffs soar with excitement, his presence is forever bold and above all else, his songwriting is genius. Soundtrack to the motion picture “Purple Rain,” the counterpart album stands in Prince’s discography as his most exciting, brave, emotional and breathtaking work.

It’s almost unbelievable that any single album could contain so many remarkable songs. “Purple Rain” features Prince’s purest expression of self to date, it's sexual, intimate, heartfelt, bold, unique and exciting. His songwriting is at its peak and each track is more focused than ever before. Prince is able to seamlessly blend his foundations of funk and R&B with daring explorations of pop and rock.

Though Prince has shown that he is capable of composing a fantastic album entirely by himself, The Revolution lend “Purple Rain" a particular spark that the album would dull without. Whether it’s their contributions in vocals or instruments, the groups performances provide “Purple Rain” with sounds Prince likely wouldn't have achieved alone. Not to mention the superb production that ultimately ties the album together.

“Purple Rain” holds a special place in fans hearts almost four decades prior to its release. Here, Price and The Revolution deliver an album that stands as one of the most exciting and daring of all time, their music offering listeners everywhere emotion, romanticism and hope.
