Parsnip - When The Tree Bears Fruit LP Vinyl Record

When The Tree Bears Fruit is the debut full-length from Melbourne four-piece Parsnip, just over half an hour of playful, poetic, and propulsive punk. There's an immediacy to the band's sheer joy and whimsy, with bassist and primary lyricist Paris Richens drawing inspiration from children's verse and the playful sonics of nursery rhymes.

Beneath the surface charm, the album deals in loneliness, longing, and the unknown just as much as it dreams of travel and romanticises the everyday. Transport and movement recur throughout as recurring images of possibility, from the wistful flight imagery of lead single Lift Off! to the hopeful distance of Lighthouse Beacon. The album's title nods to the ideas of poet Sri Chinmoy, reflecting the band's belief that their music, like fruit from a tree, is simply meant to be shared and enjoyed by anyone who wants it.

Formed in Melbourne in 2016, Parsnip are known for their playful post-punk indie sound, blending jangle-pop sensibilities, melodic keyboard hooks, and nursery rhyme-inspired lyricism into a joyful, DIY-driven whole.

If you like The Goon Sax, Tropical Fuck Storm, & Dick Diver, you'll love When The Tree Bears Fruit by Parsnip.
