Remastered from the original analog master tapes and available for the first time on vinyl is a collection of 11 beautiful songs from the leading lady of the Buena Vista Social Club, Omara Portuondo. Recorded in Havana with a dream backing band which was orchestrated by Demetrio Muñiz and includes Rubén González (piano), 'Cachaito' López (bass), 'Guarjio' Mirabal (trumpet), and Jesús 'Aguaje' Ramos (trombone), this album also sees special guests Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo and Eliades Ochoa.
Often hailed as the Billie Holiday of Cuba, Omara's album takes as its theme, unrequited love - love lost and found. "Buena Vista Social Club Presents Omara Portuondo” is a beautifully executed and produced album by the only woman to appear on the original Buena Vista Social Club recordings. Portuando, who is one of Cuba's most acclaimed musicians and a featured performer at the Tropicana, has shown here that, at 70, she still possesses the qualities that helped develop her stardom on her native island.
Pressed on Classic Black Vinyl. This version includes a full set of liner notes, including English translations of all of the lyrics, making the album even more accessible.
