Born in 1941, Neil Leslie Diamond has sold over 100 million records worldwide, and is often considered one of the best-selling musicians of all time. 38 songs by Diamond have featured in the Top 10 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts, while he was inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
Recorded between the iconic Abbey Road Studios and Diamond's own Los Angeles studio, "Classic Diamonds" is a mixture of retrospection and reinterpretation as he revisits 14 of his best known songs with assistance from the London Symphony Orchestra. Forgoing his usual band, the album aims for a classy vibe, leaning heavily on piano and orchestra to recontextualise songs like "Song Song Blue" and "Beautiful Noise", while altering the perky pop classic "I'm A Believer" into a wistful ballad. The release further proves the compositional talent of Diamond, and contains just enough surprises to keep long-time fans curious while being comforted by a good balance of his usual brand of music.
