Music From Siesta began with an unusual creative brief. The film's director had used tracks from Miles Davis's 1960 classic Sketches of Spain as placeholders throughout production, and when the rights proved impossible to secure, he turned to Davis himself to create a contemporary version with an Iberian flavour. The result is something mournful, atmospheric, and entirely its own.

Davis and trusted collaborator Marcus Miller crafted a soundtrack that acts as a kind of ambient-flamenco echo of Sketches of Spain, with Miller handling the electronic orchestration while Davis delivers his signature poignant muted trumpet solos across ten evocative tracks. Released in 1987, the album sits in a unique corner of both their catalogues, deeply atmospheric and quietly devastating.

Miles Davis was one of the most influential figures in jazz history, a trumpeter and bandleader whose restless creativity reshaped the music across multiple decades. Marcus Miller is an acclaimed American bassist, composer, and producer who became one of Davis's most trusted creative partners during the final chapter of his career.
