I’ll Take Care of You, released in September 1999 on Sub Pop and Beggars Banquet, finds Mark Lanegan channeling his brooding baritone into a plaintive, deeply personal covers album. Rather than reinvent, he reinterprets songs from various American traditions blues, folk, and soul with spare arrangements and emotional gravity.

Lanegan leans on minimal instrumentation: acoustic guitar, organ, soft percussion, and subtle touches of strings or flute. Throughout, he imbues each track with a sense of haunted intimacy, making the album less a tribute than a reshaped meditation on loss and yearning.

Highlights include his intense take on “Consider Me,” the aching title track, and a quietly tormented reading of “On Jesus’ Program.” His voice, at once weathered and expressive, unites the 11 selections into a cohesive whole that feels like confession rather than performance.
