Return is the debut album by British singer-songwriter Katy J Pearson. It was released November 13, 2020.
Western country at its base, Return combines catchy indie-pop flutters with raw, brooding yet sweet acoustics. Pearson scatters her vocal twang and 70’s style throughout the tracks and shows a maturity well beyond her years with reflective song writing based around themes of romance, depression and heartbreak.
Having reinvented herself as a solo artist after the demise of her band, Pearson clearly relishes in her new found creative freedom and control with this album. It is a brave entry, uncompromising in intention and defines the artist as a true lionhearted, indie original, straight from the starting line.
Her vocals are reminiscent of a Stevie Nicks/Kate Bush love child, warm and emotive, familiar and oh so friendly. Instrumentally there is a lot of light and shade, with stripped back acoustics in “Waiting For The Day” to a rockier vibe in “Fix Me Up”. In essence, this album is a life-affirmation, showing the artists resilience and personal development through experience.
