Cobi: Armed Forces - SAAB AJ 37 Viggen 1/48th Scale Construction Set (881 Pieces)
Experience the world of the Cold War, where every fighter jet takeoff could be the beginning of a conflict and the sky was a field of constant tension and rivalry. The Saab JA 37 Viggen fighter jet is a symbol of the technological courage of neutral Sweden, which relied on its own military power.
Despite its small size and population, Sweden has been developing an independent, advanced arms industry for decades. Its companies, such as Saab and Hägglunds, create modern aircraft and vehicles that successfully compete with the products of the Western and Eastern powers. This equipment is distinguished not only by its quality, but also by its unique appearance and technical solutions, emphasizing Swedish independence and engineering originality. This approach builds an image of Sweden as a country that creates military equipment with a distinct identity and high effectiveness.
In the early 1960s, the Swedes began work on a successor to the Draken, a STOL aircraft capable of operating not only from airports, but also from roads in the event of armed conflict. While working on the prototype, Saab chose a “canard” configuration with delta wings and large forward control surfaces, giving the aircraft its distinctive appearance.
In 1967, the first A37 Viggen prototype was flown, and less than a decade later, its most powerful version, known as the JA 37, was created. This single-seat interceptor fighter received a Volvo RM8B engine with afterburner, an Ericsson PS-46/A radar, and a 30 mm Oerlikon KCA cannon. The cockpit was equipped with a Swedish SAAB Mark 2 zero-zero ejection seat with a rocket engine, allowing for evacuation even at zero speed and altitude.
Its distinctive appearance with the canard configuration and delta wings made the Viggen one of the most recognizable fighter jets in Europe.
Key features of the Saab JA 37 Viggen set:
Uniqueness in the collection – The Saab JA 37 Viggen model is a real treat for collectors, fans of aviation history and military equipment. Its unusual silhouette stands out from the classic aircraft designs of the Cold War era.
881 bricks – The bricks are made with attention to quality and precision. Each element helps to reproduce the characteristic shapes, proportions and unique structural details of the aircraft, from the distinctive wings to the reproduction of the armament and cockpit equipment.
Pilot figure – The set includes a simplified pilot figure equipped with a helmet and oxygen mask with a hose, which further emphasizes the realism of the entire model.
1:48 scale – A classic collector’s scale that perfectly matches other models in the ARMED FORCES series. This scale provides a good balance between the level of detail and compact size, making the model look great both on a shelf and in a larger diorama.
High-quality prints – Instead of stickers, durable prints with Swedish Air Force markings are used. They are detailed, elegant and resistant to abrasion.
Realistic armament and details – The model includes a replica of the RB 04 air-to-surface long-range missile, making it easier to display in combat configurations.
Movable elements – The model has movable ailerons, wheels and an opening cockpit. These elements increase the model’s interactivity, allowing you to recreate fighter maneuvers, adding dynamism and making it more “lifelike”.
Stable display stand – The model includes a collector’s stand with a double movable pivot on which the finished model can be placed, and a plaque with the printed model name, scale designation, and the Swedish flag.
Clear instructions – Building the model is intuitive, even for less experienced builders. It’s a great form of learning and entertainment for older teenagers and adults.
Fun and decoration in one – Once assembled, the model becomes not only a great toy, but also a unique decorative element. It’s perfect as a decoration for any fan of history and military equipment.
