Across ten melancholic ballads, Brenda blends left-field soul with delicate indie songwriting, delivering poignant lyrics in a tender falsetto. The result is a deeply emotive record steeped in romance, introspection, and richly arranged instrumentation.

Drawing on the sweet soul ballads of The Delfonics, the lush arrangements of Jean-Claude Vannier’s work with Serge Gainsbourg, and the unmistakable cinematic soul flavour of Melbourne’s modern scene, Bath Time captures Whitlock’s ability to marry vintage sensibilities with contemporary emotion. Themes of old romantic habits, familial rifts, and unrequited love weave through the record, creating a work that is as vulnerable as it is musically accomplished.

While Brenda’s earlier works were created in solitude, this album sees Whitlock joined by close collaborators, including Lachlan Stuckey and Jethro Curtin (Surprise Chef) on guitar and keyboards, Darvid Thor (Karate Boogaloo) on bass, and production by Henry Jenkins. Bath Time is a testament to the power of community and shared artistry within Melbourne’s vibrant soul scene.
