Anubis, the Egyptian god of mummification and the afterlife, is usually depicted in either a canine form or as a man with a canine head, and now artists at ECC are delving into the history of Mythology to discover inspiration for the reimagining of these legendary characters. From a fascination with the natural world, the intricacies of geometric design, heroic tales of gods and monsters, to a passion for the human form and the Classical Style, the Anubis bust has been carefully crafted by Miyo Nakamura with an masterfully conceived design.

“I wanted to sculpt Anubis ever since he appeared to me as one of my spirit guides during my meditation. I feel there is a certain kismet nature, having sculpted him in 2020 where so much of our shadow aspects in our society are becoming more visible in the collective consciousness. Systematic racism, human-rights, animal-rights, environmental care. I believe Anubis is here to guide us in letting go of realities that no longer work so that change may take place. In my own personal life, I am learning about myself and am having to constantly re-write my belief system.
