The Swamp by Yoshiharu Tsuge Manga Hardcover Book

In the early sixties, Japan’s comics industry was experiencing an intellectual growth not previously seen. Part of that growth was a fresh new voice, Yoshiharu Tsuge. Tsuge is on the shortlist of the great manga creators along with Tezuka, Tatsumi, Shirato, and Mizuki. Very little of this exciting work has seen English publication until now. This is the first volume of seven from the celebrated and influential Garo artist.

The Swamp shows a young artist searching for and testing the boundaries of storytelling. A mix of classical popular samurai manga and more modern desperate post-war drama, Yoshiharu Tsuge finds his voice and becomes one of the single most influential cartoonists in the world.
