Star Wars - Ralph McQuarrie Prototype Darth Vader 22” Statue
Ralph McQuarrie was the first to bring Star Wars to a visual world. Commissioned by George Lucas to illustrate several scenes from the script of the film Star Wars in 1975, McQuarrie designed for the first time many of the film’s characters, including Darth Vader, Chewbacca, R2-D2, C-3PO and the iconic Stormtroopers. While many of these designs were ultimately changed and adapted for the screen, looking at his illustrations you can see the impact these pieces had on Lucas going forward in the film’s production.
McQuarrie’s original Darth Vader design has been created into a detailed 3D representation as part of Sideshow Collectibles’ Concept Artist Series. Set upon a multi-platform base, Darth Vader climbs with his original blue lightsaber in hand, hand clenched under strain of the force. His mask and costume are undeniably Darth Vader but are not the final imagery we have come to know and love, instead, this historic representation reflects a much more medieval design, highlighting the fantasy origins of the series.
Standing 22.24" tall, and made from Polystone, your Star Wars collection would be amiss without the addition of this unique take on one of the most amazing character to ever take the screen.
