Confusion Is Sex is the debut studio album by the American noise rock band Sonic Youth. It was released in 1983 by Neutral Records. It has been referred to as an important example of the no-wave genre, which is a music genre named for the transient avant-garde music and visual art scene from which it emerged in the late 1970s in downtown New York City.
The bareboned arsenal of junkpile guitars and implementation of alternate tunings was growing, and so were the songs that matched the individual attributes of each instrument. This album allowed Sonic Youth to be seen and heard as one of the next biggest acts coming from New York City at the time.
