Helloween - Gambling with the Devil 2xLP Vinyl Record (Clear Vinyl)
Founded in 1984 in Hamburg, West Germany, Helloween are a power/speed metal band formed from members of Iron Fist, Gentry, Second Hell and Powerfool. The band have released a whopping 16 studio albums to date, and have been honoured with 14 gold and six platinum awards, selling over ten million albums worldwide.
Released in 2007, "Gambling with the Devil" is the 12th studio album from Helloween. Bassist Markus Grosskopf has described it as "an album without any concept", instead focusing on "just doing proper decent songs". Critics have hailed it as one of the band's strongest efforts in a while, with Andi Deris' vocals standing out for their power, range and emotion. Songs like "Kill It", "Paint A New World", and "Dreambound" go straight to the point and get those neck muscles working, while "As I Fall" and "Fallen To Pieces" are more laidback, making excellent use of more pop-like distorted vocal effects along with memorable melodies. Slower moments appear in "The Bells Of The Seven Hells" and "Heaven Tells No Lies", with creepy keyboards and a well-considered atmosphere, giving the album a nice variety of sounds and tonalities. Overall, the release is a solid collection of songs that showcase an experienced group coming together and working hard on material that they can be proud of.
