Twelve years is a long time to wait, but Hypercaffium Spazzinate makes every minute worthwhile. The Descendents' first album since Everything Sucks finds Milo Aukerman, Bill Stevenson, Stephen Egerton, and Karl Alvarez channelling an energy just as raw and jittery as their earliest days.

With Milo in Delaware, Karl and Bill in Colorado, and Stephen in Oklahoma, the album took shape over three years of traded tracks and occasional meetups in Fort Collins. The result is frenetically catchy and gloriously unhinged, featuring the classic Milo cartoon on the cover, this time with his head affixed to a lab flask in an attempt to synthesise some bonus caffeine.

Formed in the late 1970s in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, the Descendents pioneered pop-punk by fusing hardcore speed with melodic hooks and hyper-personal lyrics about suburban life, coffee, and angst.
