Batman - Retro 1950’s Batman Pop! Vinyl Figure
With the introduction of the Comics Code Authority, the 1950’s saw a colourful, much more lighthearted portrayal of Batman than had previously been seen. Gone were the dark gritty 1930’s crime stories, which were instead replaced with incredible tales of Batman foiling evil doers with a strong moral lesson to be learnt.
As unsavoury or gruesome illustrations were prohibited, the artwork of Dick Sprang became the new standard of the look and feel of Batman. Becoming a primary artist for Batman in 1941, Sprang’s Batman was notable for his square chin, expressive face and barrel chest. His clean lines and bold sense of design set his work apart from the style of early Batman artists.
Funko have paid tribute to the iconic work of Dick Sprang with the release of their Retro Batman Pop! Vinyl Figure. Based on Sprang’s printed works, this Batman features the stark black and blue design, recreating Sprang’s bold line work in the mask and trunks.
A piece pulled from the history books, this is sure to be a must have for you Pop! Vinyl collection.
